BEGINNING OF MAHATMA GANDHI MISSION TRUST

The Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust is the parent body of MGMIHS which was established in 1982 by Hon. The MGM Deemed University has been notified as a Deemed to be University i.e. “MGM Institute of Health Sciences” vide Notification No. F.9-21/2005-U.3 (A) dated 30.08.2006 issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi.

Two of its Medical Colleges at Aurangabad and Navi Mumbai were accorded the status of Deemed to be University and Mahatma Gandhi Mission Institute of Health Sciences (MGMIHS) started officially functioning in 2006.

It takes about 5 mins by rick from Khandeshwar Railway station (Harbour Rly) to reach MGM Medical College, though you may have to spend an enormous amount of time reaching the station, especially if you live in South Mumbai or the Western Suburbs. You may have never noticed it, but it is located right opposite the McDonalds where you stop to have your morning snacks on your way to Lonavala or Pune, i.e., where the expressway starts.

MGM Medical College has very good infrastructure. Meets the standards of a private college. A clean campus, good classrooms well equipped labs and enough projectors make for interesting classes.

Faculty:

Most of the teachers at MGM Medical College are good. Out of the others, some are average while some are really bad. However, all of them are very helpful. In the 1st year the best department is biochemistry and physiotherapy. Anatomy is average. In the 2nd year micro, pharmac faculty are good. 3rd year psm teachers are very good. So on an average, one can say that the faculty is good for one or two subjects.

Hospitals Affiliated:

Clinical experience is provided at MGM group of hospitals at Kamothe, Vashi, Kalamboli, CBD Belapur and NMMC Hospital Vashi.

Community health experience is provided at Nere village, UPH, at CBD Belapur and Turbhe.

Psychiatric experience will be provided in LTMG Hospital, Sion and Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health, Sasoon Hospital, Pune.

Post-Grad Studies:

This used to be the problematic area. Students of this college couldn’t give the Maharshtra PG exam and thus reducing the options drastically. But, with the introduction of NEET it’s been resolved and even all your options for studying abroad are open.

Crowd:

Nothing special about the crowd as such. It’s the usual crowd found at most of the colleges. All sorts of people can be found here. Just get into a group where you feel the most comfortable, be it bookish, irresponsible or a combination of both.

Attendance:

Very lenient. 75% attendance is recommended and expected but they let you go off with a 50% (But letters are sent to your parents so you may face problems at home). However, if the attendance goes below the 50% mark, you are made to sit for extra cover lectures.

Canteen:

The canteen is just about average. Food is tasty but due to cleanliness issues you wouldn’t feel like having it. The mess food, however, is best not sampled.

Hangouts:

McDonalds, Little world – Kharghar are pretty close. Malls, restaurants, hookah bars and clubs can be found in Kharghar. If you are looking for more options, a variety can be found if you travel to Vashi (which is not very close from here) or Belapur.

Festivals:

Ex-tasy, a cultural festival at MGM Medical College, which is usually celebrated around March and primarily organized by the second years is real fun. All the major events such as band performances, games, contests, prizes, DJ nights can be enjoyed.

Established in 1999, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) became a constituent Nitte University in 2009. The Institution is named after its founder, the visionary, Late Justice K S Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha

Academic programs
The Institution offers MBBS and MD/MS programs recognized by the Medical Council of India. It also offers B.Sc courses in Medical Imaging Technology and Operation Theatre Technology. Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, the 1000 bed teaching hospital attached to the Institution provides all levels of holistic health care including major super-speciality services and provides excellent training opportunities to the students of the Academy.

MBBS

Eligibility criteria for MBBS course
A pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Nitte University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects.

The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.

Admission under NRI quota
The admission under the NRI category is based on merit in the qualifying examination taking into consideration, marks secured in the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Foreign nationals are also considered for admission under this quota.

Students seeking admission under the NRI category should submit a separate application to the college in the prescribed format, available at the University office, Mangalore or from the website www.nitte.edu.inalong with the attested photocopies of the following documents:

  1. 10th Std. marks card/pass certificate (for proof of date of birth)
  2. 10+2 marks card
  3. Transfer certificate from the institution last attended
  4. Passport and student visa
  5. Passport and Employer”s certificate as proof of NRI status (if the candidate has studied in India)
  6. A demand draft for Rs.1000/- towards registration fee favoring Nitte University, payable at Mangalore.

The payment of fee shall be from the Non Resident External (N.R.E) account of the parent.

Admission under General Merit category
The admission under the General merit category will be through the process of centralised single window counselling on the basis of merit(rank) obtained in the All India Entrance Test, NU UGET conducted by Nitte University.

As per the regulations of the statutory bodies, the minimum percentage of marks in the Entrance Test to be eligible for admission to the MBBS course shall be 50% for General Category candidates.

Duration: 5 ½ yrs (including one yr of compulsory rotatory internship)

Commencement of course
The course commences as per the date prescribed by the University, most likely during the first week of August. The exact date will be communicated by the Institution.

  1. Valid passport and student visa for the period of study. (Original must be shown for verification. 5 duly-attested photocopies must be produced.)

  4. *No objection certificate issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India

Eligibility criteria for M.D – M.S
The minimum qualification for admission to the postgraduate program is a MBBS degree or an equivalent degree recognized by the University and MCI.

Genesis of KLE University

The institute will strive to be among the top ten medical colleges in India in the spheres of medical education, research and health care services. Added to this 1000 bed Dr.Prabhakar Kore Charitable Hospital and three Primary Health Centres and one urban Health centre will be the epicenters of post graduate and under graduate training, wherein patients are treated free and exclusively meant for training the post graduate and under graduate in their basic knowledge and skills.

 

The extreme shortage of medical facilities in the region, promoted the KLE Society to establish the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Belgaum in 1963. The J N Medical College, Belgaum, stands testimony to the high professional standards aimed for and achieved by the KLE Society. Under the able guidance and mature insight of the Founder Dean, Late Dr. B.S.Jirge, the foundation of the present academic vastness was laid. Eminent medical educationist, late Dr.B.S. Desai and Dr. M.Basavaraj Urs headed the institutions as principals during the first decade.

 

Dr.S.G.Desai took over the reigns of the institution in 1971. His distinguished tenure between 1971 and 1985 was marked by the achievement of high standards of discipline, decorum, and academic excellence.

 

Dr.H.B.Rajshekhar assumed the office of the principal in 1985. During his tenure; the college saw vast growth in infrastructure and learning resources. He contributed substantially in the up coming of the KLE Hospital and MRC, Department of Medical Educaiton, Digital Library and collaboration with the University of Illinois, USA. These ideas were conceived and realized during his tenure. Welfare and student support amenities were given a great emphasis by him.

The students in the campus are from different countries and different cultures and all the efforts are taken for smooth induction of the students into the campus and for that purpose student orientation programs, language classes for enabling the students to interact with local patients are regularly conducted. BIJAPUR LIBERAL DISTRICT EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION


BLDE Association which is involved in providing education and inculcating knowledge from primary education to professional education. This great and mighty Association is celebrating its centenary year. The centenary celebration renews its committed goal towards enhancing quality education by adding new institutions and new education programmes in the existing institutions.

The BLDE Association propagating education in Bijapur and Bagalkot districts, which are recognized as socially, economically and educationally backward areas by then British Government and by present UGC, State Government and Central Government.Dr. P.G. Halakatti with other philanthropists of Bijapur founded a co-operative bank and this association with primary objective of propagation of education. Thus, Bijapur Lingayat Development Education Association (BLDEA) took birth on 23-10-1910.The Association made a humble beginning by accepting to run a High School handed over by a German Mission, who was returning to Germany because of World War-I.Thus, the journey towards imparting of education start.

In the year 1942, a religious leader and a visionary Shri Shri Sanganabasaveshwar Maha Shivayogigalu of Banthanal, laid a firm foundation to BLDE Association by way of establishing various educational institutes. He played a major role in developing the Association and established many institutions to impart Primary, Higher Secondary and Higher education.

In the 60s another great visionary, Shri B.M.Patil took responsibility to benefit the people of the region. With his great vision and tenacity, a new dimension was given to the functioning of the institutions of Association by establishing the institutions to impart professional education. The Association established Engineering College, Pharmacy College, Nursing College and the Medical College, along with its own 1000 bed teaching hospital first of its kind in the country.

A new era began when Mr. M. B. Patil, an young and dynamic leader, took reins of the BLDE Association. His primary objective was quality education. With recent concepts of liberalization, globalization and tremendous expansion of knowledge in various new courses. He conceived the need for establishment of University. His dream came true with the establishment of BLDE University on 29-02-2008.

The Association sponsors and runs 75 Institutions in both rural and urban areas of Bijapur and Bagalkot Districts. The spectrum covers Primary schools, High Schools, Pre-University Colleges, Degree colleges in faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Education Science, Fine arts, Pharmacy, Nursing, Nursery, Sericulture, Engineering & Polytechnics, Medical sciences with Post graduate courses and sponsors the BLDE University.
