All of the medical colleges in Karnataka, except the deemed university medical colleges, are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
The University of Health Sciences conducts the common entrance examinations for admission to MBBS, PG Medical Degree and Diploma Courses in the 49 Government / Private medical colleges in Karnataka affiliated to and implements uniform curriculum.
The number of seats available every year in these medical colleges in Karnataka for admission in UG (MBBS) are 5625 and PG (MD / MS / DM / MCh ) are 3130.
Recognized by Medical Council of India
The MBBS / PG degree awarded by the university is recognized by Medical Council of India, a statutory body, established by the India Medical Council Act.
The Act is responsible for establishing and maintaining uniform standard of medical education and recognition of medical qualification of India & abroad.
Common Entrance Test for Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students
A common entrance test is conducted for the students. For Karnataka local students the common entrance test KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is conducted by KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority). [ad 4]
For Non-Karnataka as well as Karnataka students a common entrance test is conducted by COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering & Dental Colleges of Karnataka).
There is one more association in Karnataka by the name KRLMPCA (Karnataka Religious & Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association).
The KRLMPCA association autonomously conducts its own entrance for the students of Karnataka as well as non-Karnataka aspirants of MBBS & PG from the whole of India.
